I love this bike !!! I traded my road bike in against this and I’m so glad I did
It’s smooth and comfortable and perfect for the roads here
As a few have mentioned the limited gears does leave you wanting a little more on the downhills but that’s minor. Have needed to adjust the front brake a few months in. Tyres seem good despite poor reviews. Really like the look of the bike, certainly works for what I need (commute to work over a section of rough terrain.) Cycling to Amsterdam on it in two weeks so hopefully it’ll be up to the rigours of the mountainous landscape and hoping that I don’t end up in a canal. 🇳🇱 🧡
Very easy to ride, gears are easy to find and operate. Great brakes. Great value for money bike
For the price this bike seems to be excellent value.
I've had my GRVL 120 for a year now and have used it for local gravel rides and taken it bike packing on the Trans Pennine Trail. On the TPT, the bike held up well bouncing around on the rough parts of the trails. In places you need some lower gears, a 12 speed cassette or an extra chain ring would come in handy. On descents you could do with higher gears. The main drawbacks are the tyres, they are useless. You need to carry two spare tubes and a puncture repair kit wherever you go. Or as I did after six months of pain. Buy a better set of tyres and go tubeless. I would recommend the bike, but would not recommend the tyres.
6 month review -
as others have noted, the brakes are poor. the disc brakes are difficult to adjust to any real level of responsiveness and the gearing does not engage beyond a fairly low upper limit, meaning on downhills you quickly unable to gain traction.
the main frustration for me however has been that despite being described as mudgard compatible, my local shop pointed out there is little clearance. This meant no option of a permanently fitted mudgard. I feel this to be very peculiar for a bike clearly designed for off gravel and essentially that this product is misadvertised.
Decathalon have pointed me towards SKS speedrocker guards which are a great product, however they dont fit well esp on the front because theres no space on the forks for fixing due to a brake cabling bracket being part of the frame there.
Bought this bike mainly for commuting - as I wanted something less bulky than a mountain/ hybrid bike, but a bit sturdier than a road bike. This ticks the boxes really well, and I feel safer with the chunkier tires, especially cycling on roads in wintry conditions.
Only snag is that the front brake tends to loosen up a bit despite me tightening it, and the saddle is pretty rock hard - however that's obviously something I can change.
Hello David,
We are very happy to hear that you have had a good experience in Decathlon Oxford. For further service on the bike, we have a workshop with well equipped and trained technicians who will be able to check over your bike whenever you feel it is necessary. We hope to see you back soon!
Kind regards,
Maria
I purchased my gravel triban 120 bike large last june, used it for everyday commute to work about 6miles, joined london to brighton sept 10, and it never failed me! Loved this bike, very good set up! Used all the speed smoothly. I recommend this bike.
Purchased from the Stockport store. Friendly staff(when I could get served) lots of people putting stuff on shelves, but unwilling to approach me when they could all see I needed help in making a purchase.
Any was able to try the bike and purchase it. Unfortunately I had to return the next day to collect it as one had to be built, annoying as I'd traveled from Bury, a 30 min car journey.
Collected my bike the next day. I received no paper work or details of when my 3 month free service would be available.
Road the bike the next day, gears were not tuned correctly, and the front wheel was not built correctly I know this from 25 years of building, and riding mountain bike. I could've fixed these issues myself but seeing how this was a brand new bike, I felt I shouldn't be put out of pocket. Called The Stockport store, informed a mechanic of the issues on which I was just told bring it back and we'll look at it. I asked any specific time, and how long it'd take, he repeated... Just bring it in.
From his tone I sure he put the phone down and probably called me a name beginning with the letters c or t.
I decided to not take it back into Decathlon and sort the issues out myself.
A great shame, as it was my first purchase from Decathlon and I was expecting alot more, and to purchase again from them.
A Very good bike, bar the braking performance, ruined by poor customer service.
Having had the bike for sometime now, as with some reviews before this the bike does the job and well. Steering is responsive and suitable for medium technical gravel road, I had not trouble in maintaining control of the bike. For off road ride the gearing and speed is good but if you have come off a road bike and switch to gravel you will be disappointed on down hills while on the road. On this bike I normally peak around 24mph and after that point my legs are spinning like crazy. Additionally there is a big change when shifting gears where you are peddling too much or not enough, a bike with more gears would be more suitable. When shifting gears this can also dislodge the front spoke which I thought should not happen as this is a single spoke. On long rides it can become uncomfortable and seat post suspension and a padding does help reduce this. Grip has been good, no punctures so far however; the brakes are rubbish making a squalling noise when applied at slower speeds, it might be my model but these need to be replaced.
